Wado-Ryu Karate-Do students from all over the world converged on The Spectrum in Guildford for the annual Wado Academy Winter Course from Sat 18/Feb to Wed 22/Feb. Nick Mugridge and Phil Sears from Fudoshin attended the whole 5-day course with Sensei Rob Windsor joining them for the day on Monday. It was good to see old friends from around the country and to catch-up on what they've been up to - some belts had changed colour too! The picture above shows the senior instructors pictured with students from England. There were many students from the rest of the UK, Scandinavia, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland and Belgium as well as Bulgaria. There were also a number of students from Canada and the USA.
Training was led by Grand Master Ohtsuka II who travelled from Japan to be with us - the Grand Master last led training at the Winter Course in 2004. Training ran from 10am to 2pm each day - the Grand Master covered basics, Ippon Gumite (pair work), Kihon Gumite (pair work) as well as Idori (kneeling defense). All of the Fudoshin students came away from the course inspired and having learnt a lot.
The picture left shows the senior instructors who assisted the Grand Master with the course (left to right): Sensei George Grimes (7th Dan Renshi); Sensei Yoshihiko Iwasaki (7th Dan Kyoshi); Grand Master Hironori Ohtsuka II; Sensei Masafumi Shiomitsu (8th Dan Hanshi); Sensei Fumio Sugasawa (7th Dan Renshi).
