Brean Sands WKF Spring Course, May 2009
For the 6th year running Fudoshin club members travelled down the M4 and M5 to Pontins Brean Sands for the annual WKF Spring training course on Friday 9/May. Club members who travelled to Brean included Nick Mugridge, Phil Sears and Leanne Cotterill. The course was led by Sensei George Grimes (7th Dan Kyoshi), Sensei Tony Heap (7th Dan Wado-Kai) and Sensei Nick Quilliam 6th Dan Renshi.
Friday evening was excellent with a first class warm-up by Sensei Heap and then some real focus on basics with Sensei Quilliam. After a Fish supper it was off to the night club to see everyones moves. Phil left early to get a start on a new knitting pattern and to get some rest before the morning run.
Saturday started with exercises on the beach at 0715 followed by a short run and then a game of footie. Leanne's semi-pro footbal skills came out as she nearly tackled Sensei Grimes but bailed out at the last moment. The 4 hour session on Saturday was excellent: Sensei Quilliam covered Niseishi kata which was new to Phil and Leanne; then Sensei Grimes took us through lots of applications of the kata. A great session enjoyed by everyone. Most people rested up in the afternoon before enjoying some awesome home cooked food and then popping in to the night club to check out this years fancy dress!
Sunday started again on the beach at 0715 with another run followed by Kata and pair work - then it was back to our chalets for bacon sarnies before training started again at 0930. It was another outstanding session: Sensei Grimes taking us through Pinan Yodan in detail; and Sensei Quilliam taking us all through Kihon Gumite in general and Nihon me in detail. Another fantastic session. That left us time to say goodbye to our chums and head back to family, pets and relatives.
Last year we had some pictures of Glyn kicking Laura - so this year it was payback time for Laura:
